Unlock, Face ID and auto-lock
How your password, Face ID or fingerprint and auto-lock protect Morsel, how to change them, and what to do if you forget your password.
Your password encrypts your wallet on this device and unlocks Morsel. On iPhone and Android you can unlock with Face ID, Touch ID or your fingerprint instead. Morsel locks itself when you've been away.
Unlock
When Morsel is locked you see Welcome back.
- With biometrics: the system prompt opens by itself. If you cancel it, tap Unlock with Face ID (or your method) to try again, or Use password.
- With your password: type it in Password and tap Unlock. Morsel warns you when Caps Lock is on.
Turn on Face ID or fingerprint
- Go to Settings → Security & privacy.
- Turn on Unlock with Face ID (the name matches your phone).
- Enter your password once and tap Turn on.
Your face or fingerprint never leaves your phone's secure hardware. On iPhone, the phone's own Keychain decides how you verify, so it may ask for your passcode when Face ID can't see you. Your password always works.
If Morsel says Stored biometric password is invalid, it has turned biometric unlock off. Unlock with your password, then turn it on again.
The Chrome extension unlocks with your password only.
Auto-lock
Go to Settings → Security & privacy → Lock after and choose Immediately, 1 minute, 5 minutes (the default), 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 4 hours.
On iPhone and Android:
- Morsel checks how long you were away when you come back, and locks if it was longer than your setting. Immediately locks as soon as you leave the app.
- Pulling down Control Center or reading a notification doesn't count as leaving.
- Morsel also locks if you leave it open and idle for your chosen time, but never sooner than a minute.
- If the app is closed completely, it's always locked when you open it again.
On the Chrome extension:
- Closing the popup doesn't lock straight away. If you reopen it within about 5 minutes, it opens unlocked, and each open starts the 5 minutes again.
- After about 5 minutes away, or when Chrome restarts, you'll unlock with your password again, whatever Lock after says.
- While the popup or side panel is open, Lock after applies, never sooner than a minute.
To lock right away, go to Settings → Danger zone → Lock wallet now.
Change your password
- Go to Settings → Security & privacy → Wallet password.
- Enter your Current password, then the New password twice.
- Tap Update password. You'll see Password updated.
Biometric unlock keeps working with the new password. Each device has its own password: changing it here doesn't change it on your other devices.
Wrong password
After three wrong tries, Morsel makes you wait before the next one: 30 seconds, then 2 minutes, then 5, then 15 minutes for each try after that. The button shows the time left, for example Locked (25s). The count resets when you unlock.
Forgot your password?
Morsel doesn't store your password and can't reset it. You can start fresh on this device and restore your wallets with their recovery phrases.
- On the lock screen, tap Forgot password?
- Read Forgotten password carefully, then tap I UNDERSTAND, DISCONNECT ALL.
- Morsel removes every wallet from this device and returns to the welcome screen.
- Tap I already have a wallet and import each wallet with its recovery phrase or private key. Set a new password.
