Message previews

See who wrote and what they said on your lock screen, decrypted on your phone. Reply from the notification, or turn previews off.

  • iPhone
  • Android

Chat notifications can show the message itself, not just "New message". The text is decrypted on your phone. Morsel's servers only ever handle the encrypted message.

How it works

When you accept a chat, or save someone as a contact, Morsel keeps a key for that one conversation in your phone's secure storage. When a message arrives, your phone uses it to decrypt the notification.

  • These keys can only read their own chat. Your wallet's key is never used.
  • Message requests never get a key. A request only says New message request from [name].
  • Removing a wallet from Morsel removes its keys.

Reply from the notification

Long-press a chat notification (on Android, expand it) and tap Reply. Your phone needs to be unlocked. If Morsel can't send it from there, it opens the chat with your reply ready. If a reply fails, you'll see Not sent. Open Morsel to send it.

On iPhone, long-press any Morsel notification for a richer preview: the last few messages of a chat, a payment card, or an NFT's image.

Turn previews off

Go to Settings → Preferences → Notifications and turn off Show message text. Notifications then only say who a message is from. Turning it off also deletes the stored conversation keys from your phone.

To stop chat notifications completely, turn off New messages.
